On International Lesbian Day, we recognize the strength and hard work of lesbian women, femmes, and gender nonconforming activists, community leaders, friends and lovers in our region. Despite a history of being underrepresented, silenced, and overlooked, we want to emphasize the growth we've experienced as a community and a collective movement, thanks to the steadfast dedication of lesbians.

Meem Toronto was directly inspired by Meem in Lebanon, a lesbian organization established in 2007 in Beirut. Meem Toronto follows this lineage here in Toronto with respect to their hard work in creating a support group and safe space for our community. Earlier in 2003, Aswat, a Palestinian organization for lesbians, was formed in Haifa, marking another significant milestone.

Lesbians have played a pivotal role in our diaspora community's development. They inspire us and provide the courage we need to keep moving forward.

In an exciting new partnership, Meem Toronto collaborates with Habibi Please, a social enterprise committed to celebrating diversity and nurturing inclusion within our community. Today, we launch our "Love is Love" t-shirt collection, available for $30. Every purchase directly supports Meem Toronto's efforts to organize social gatherings, activities and events. Visit habibiplz.com to grab your shirt and stand with us in empowering our community's future. Together, we're stronger than ever.
